A light day on the pro-day schedule today, thankfully.  We are starting to get results from Tulane and expect numbers from Vanderbilt soon.  We will also be following a number of small school prospects also in action today.  First we need to tidy up a few notes.   Updates:  Tulane, Missouri St, Vanderbilt, MTSU & San Jose St

San Jose State

Receiver Kevin Jurovich stole the show today at the Spartans pro-day.  He ran his forty’s in times of 4.43-to-4.46, posted a vertical jump of 37.5-inches and a broad jump of 10′2”.  He caught everything thrown to him.  The practice quarterback was a name familiar to some; Adam Tafralis, the former San Jose State quarterback and combine invite who has been playing in the CFL.

Linebacker/defensive end Justin Cole ran in the 4.7’s but did not do drills afterward.

Defender Carl Ihenacho, who still rehabbing from knee surgery performed in January, struggled to run the forty once then was told to stop.  His knee is still less than 100% and Ihenacho is hoping to participate at the Hawaii pro-day, held in the beginning of April at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

Missouri

The Tigers had their second pro-day this week and it was a success for receiver Jared Perry.  His forty time of 4.43 seconds was significantly faster than his mark from the combine.  His result of 34.5-inches in the vertical jump and 10′2” in the broad were also significantly better.

Vanderbilt

Defensive end Steven Stone measured 6050/270 lbs then proceeded to turn in a vertical jump of 35-inches and run a three cone time of 6.99-seconds.  His forty time was 4.92 seconds.  Stone was later put through defensive line and linebacker drills and there’s a feeling the athletic prospect could easily add another 20-pounds to his frame.

Middle Tennessee St

Almost two-dozen teams were on hand at MTSU, most to watch Chris McCoy.  He ran a 40 time in the low 4.7-second area after measuring 6033/261-pounds, posted a vertical jump of 33.5 inches and a broad jump of 10’3’’.  Many of the teams at the workout use a 3-4 alignment on defense and were impressed with McCoy’s skills in pass coverage drills.  McCoy has visits set up with the Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks.

Tulane

Receiver Jeremy Williams, who ran disappointing times at the combine, was significantly faster today.  His time of 4.44 seconds in the 40 was almost two-tenths of a second better than his combine mark.

Early reports have running back Andre Anderson posting a 39-inch vertical jump, 10’3’’ broad and completing 17 reps on the bench.  Anderson’s forty times clocked between 4.52 and 4.56.

Missouri State

Tight end Clay Harbor continues to impress scouts.  This morning he reportedly ran times of 4.56/4.57 during his pro-day workout, which took place outdoors.  Harbor ran outdoors on field turf. He timed 4.24-seconds in the short shuttle and 7.10 in the three cone.  He stood on his 30 reps from the combine.

Notes

Yesterday on SI.com we initially reported the time of TJ Ward as 4.46-seconds during the pro-day workout in Oregon.  Later in the evening someone who was at the workout saw our report and said their time read in the low 4.5’s, hence we reported that time as well.  There’s some contention over the official time but as anyone who has ever been to a pro-day workout will tell you, and we’ve been to many, if there are ten people timing the prospects you’ll get different times.

There is no disputing this; Ward’s times yesterday are significantly better than his combine numbers and the safety is definitely moving up draft boards.  He always has a workout scheduled with the St Louis Rams and is scheduled to visit the Kansas City Chiefs.

We were alerted that someone took exception after we stated that Florida State safety Myron Rolle “ran poorly at the combine”, stating his “official” time on NFL.com was 4.54 seconds.  Official times from NFL.com are nothing more than one of their hired hands, or sometimes a scout, in the stands at the combine with a stopwatch.

The Master Report, which is given to all 32 teams and which we have a copy of, lists Rolle’s electronic times as 4.76/4.76 on his two runnings of the forty.  His fastest official hand time on the master report reads 4.59 seconds.

We will post all the combine results beginning the end of the month as soon as the pro-day schedule subsides.
