(PackerChatters Newswire) – According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, former Green Bay Packers and New York Jets quarterback Brett Favre has informed Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress of his intent to stay retired.
Childress spoke to Favre and was made aware of the quarterback’s decision. The coach said Favre was concerned about the grind — mental and physical — of a 16-game season.
“I just think it was a rare opportunity to explore a Hall of Fame quarterback who had background in the NFC and in this division,” Childress said. “He knows our system inside out … This doesn’t change anything about how I feel about our football team.”
There is no indication that Favre will speak publicly about this process and his final decision. Barring another change of heart by Favre (no one can ever really rule this out), or another move by the Vikings, they’ll enter training camp Friday with Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels competing for the starting job.
Jackson looked solid in his late-season run in 2008, but sputtered badly in Minnesota’s playoff loss to Philadelphia. Rosenfels has never been a full-time NFL starter, but has played well in spurts for Houston.

LOL… Maybe the viqueens know what he did to the Packers for the past 5 years!!! With a little luck, he ruined the confidence of all the other QB’s on thier roster.
If true, this makes Childress look like a complete putz!!! His lockerroom knows he was hot for Favre, and couldn’t seal the deal.
Not sure if I believe this will be his FINAL decision just yet though!
The only constant in this whole saga was the complete lack of one, single creditable source…why should anyone believe anything written about favre from here on out?
I will always welcome and honor Brett Favre as a Packer. Is he truly retired? He said he wants to continue his ‘throwing regimen’ to high school students. I think it would be wonderful if he decided to stay retired, and come back as a QB coach at the high school level. I believe it was his retirement dream to do this- and to retire (at age 39!) and realize your dream is not to be sneezed at. This is a guy who has the world by its butt. Why let go?
