A sad tale with a happy ending
« on: October 01, 2017, 12:20:11 AM »
Recently, in Naperville, Illinois, there was a court hearing on the fate of a nine year old boy who had been removed from the custody of his physically abusive mother. The boy had been put into the care of his aunt, and the judge who had made the original removal wanted to hear how things were going for the boy in his new environment. The boy, squirming uncomfortably in the hard witness chair, stared around the room, and then,  barely choking out the words, said his aunt was more abusive than his mother, and then began sobbing uncontrollably.

Appalled by this, the judge immediately suspended the custody arrangement, and, after conferring with the boy's social worker, declared that the boy would henceforth be put into the care of his grandparents. Hearing this, the boy stiffened in the chair, the color draining from his face, and looked close to fainting. Seeing something was wrong, and after helping the boy recover himself, the judge gently asked what was wrong. The boy began sobbing uncontrollably, finally was able to say that his grandparents were worse than his mom or aunt.

Suddenly, the judge saw the problem: a dysfunctional family where abuse had been passed from one generation to the next. The judge immediately called for a hearing in his chambers, with the attorneys, the social worker and the little boy. After some review of case law, a careful consideration of precedents, and agreement by all parties, custody of the boy was given to the Chicago Bears.

Because they can't beat anybody.
