Title: Chris Rainey on the Waivers
Post by: Draft Hobbyist on January 10, 2013, 08:50:09 PM
I know a lot of people have liked the talent of Chris Rainey in the past. Unfortunately, he got in a fight with his girlfriend, she was trying to take his phone or something and they wrestled around and he hit her. He's in jail now. Pittsburgh didn't want to deal with him so they cut him, and he got in trouble and kicked off of Florida in college for similar issues. Would anybody be interested in grabbing this guy ihe clears waivers, if he's available, and if he's out of jail for the playoff run? What if there are injuries at the RB position? He obviously has talent but beating women is pretty serious.

Not only a scrub, but a punk scrub for hitting a woman. No thanks.

Character means more than talent.  If it was a one time thing, OK, but multiple offenses, take a walk.

There was a day not long ago, where a father and brothers would go and give this goof a taste of his own medicine

Meh.  It's hard to ever make this point and not come off as a bad guy, but whatever -- I don't feel bad for her.  A man should never lay a hand on a woman to try to exert dominance or control, or vent frustration.  But if she wants to act like a hooligan, then I don't think she has any right to complain when she gets treated like one.  Stealing the guy's property and attempting to flee.  If you want to be treated like the fairer gender, then I think it's only reasonable that you act like the fairer gender.  I'm not saying I support what he did, but I don't really consider her a victim either.  They both sound like scumbags.

As for Rainey, the dude sounds like a lunatic.  It's his second incident like this in the last couple years -- in the prior one, he sent the girl a text that said "Time to die."  At a minimum, he clearly doesn't know how to pick appropriate relationships.  At worst, he's a borderline sociopath.  No thanks.

I was just going to post what mavajo posted regarding the text he send in college.  This guy sounds like an unpredictable nutjob.

The talent is great but I think I'll pass.

Age old question of is the headache worth it?
He didn't show much in Pittsburgh.
But he does have speed, so he will land somewhere.  It just won't be in Green Bay.  It is true that TT occassionally will take a "flier", but usually not on a habitual bad character.  To my knowledge, this is Rainey's second issue.  Again, I think we pass, but someone will take him.

He'll either end up on the Jets to further screw up that lockerroom, or he'll end up in the Patriots' school for wayward boys.

"Hello, Mr. Rainey? This is Coach Lewis in Cincinnati. You sound like our kind of guy!"  ;)

Well, I also think that a team can take a chance on a guy much more easily just for the playoffs. The Packers could sign him to deal with no guaranteed money and then cut him after the playoffs. Rainey is probably a better RB than any guy we have, but I don't think we'll take a chance on him, either. Harris has shown too much lately.

NFL rules disallow that as he can't be officially cut until after the Super Bowl.

Yah liked him coming out of college.

Thought he was a 7th rounder Pit took him in the 5th.

Really really fast.  Fastest back in the draft last year.

Productive on the field too.

Dunno if he's a head case or getting a bad rap.

Worth looking into I would think.

PFT now has unearthed two other "brushes with the law" for Rainey from last year.

As far as his girlfriend going into denial, thats not uncommon. Unfortunately. Because if he gets away with it once, the chances increase that he'll keep on doing it- and it will get worse each time.

Absolutely a disgrace who brings negative value to any team taking a chance on him. No real football talent to speak of anyway, save for running fast in a straight line.

They usually recant once they realize their "lifestyle" is at risk. >:D

As I told one of those in college " I've never hit a woman, but I have slapped a bitch or two"
