Title: The OFFICIAL Niners v Packers Game Day Thread
Post by: ricky on October 10, 2018, 04:36:53 PM
There are no more "gimme" games for the Packers. Every game is going to be challenging, no matter where it's played, or what the opponent's record is. The Packers have consistently fallen behind in the first half of games, then had to try to pull victory from the jaws of defeat with comebacks. It worked one and a half times. It's failed twice. This is a team that lacks an identity, a QB that is clearly not under the control of the HC, and seemingly doesn't see its best RB as worthy of playing more than a handful of snaps during a game. Losing this game would be devastating. They are going into a bye week, and the second half of the schedule gets a lot more challenging. Can they turn things around? Yes. Will they? Stay tuned. But, never give up hope, even when things look grim indeed.

I don't know this guy, and I disagree with some of his points, but I like his attitude:

A personal note: thank you, LMG for your patience in moving this thread to the correct "Child Board". I'll be sure to put it here in the future.

Read this article earlier today................

https://packerswire.usatoday.com/2018/10/10/packers-wr-davante-adams-dominated-from-slot-vs-lions/ (https://packerswire.usatoday.com/2018/10/10/packers-wr-davante-adams-dominated-from-slot-vs-lions/)

Adams got A LOT of his production out of the Slot on Sunday.

I wonder if we will see more of that going forward, and does that mean more playing time for MVS and ESB even after Cobb comes back?

And what does that mean for Cobb, if Adams is that crazy productive in the Slot?

Quote
Back in May, quarterback Aaron Rodgers said the Packers would be giving Adams more opportunities from the slot, believing a big, quick receiver would be difficult to cover given the entire field to operate. It’s a strong strategy that often worked to free up Jordy Nelson for big plays.

Sorry...............couldn't resist.  hatsoff)

I'll be at the game on Monday night. Dont think I'll be on here much (probably to the delight of some), but if I see something first hand that's under much scrutiny or debate I may be able to give a real time perspective.

Given the strength of the NFC, and the North, the Packers need to realistically go 8-3 down the stretch to have a shot at making it into the playoffs.  And, given the remaining games in the schedule, that’s a tall task - but certainly possible.  It starts with a win at home on Monday night.  That said, if the Packers and Rodgers backs weren’t against the wall the first five games, they’re at least leaning sideways heavily against the wall, especially after the bye.

It will be interesting to see how the Packers play as a team monday night. Under MM the Packers have played some head scratchingly bad games going into their bye weeks. Hopefully as a team they feel the need to win this one is more important than heading off on vacation somewhere.

Packers vs. 49ers:

Regular season, all-time: 31-27-1
All-time postseason: 4-3
All-time, in Green Bay: 13-6 (includes 2-1 in postseason)

I would be happy with any win this week, just hoping they don't lay the colossal egg come monday.

They will take care of the 49's.  Not to worry.  If the Pack dumps this game I'll be shocked.

I agree with this and I think 8-3 in probably the right numbers. The Patriots game with the Packers playing on the west coast the week before is a lot to ask to over come. The thursday night trip to Seattle is on a short week is also a hugh hurdle to over come. A third lose may well be at the hands of the Bears or the Vikings. Could see both the Packers and the Vikings ending the year at 10-5-1 and the Bears 10-6 meaning the winner of the Packers-Vikings game would be the North champion.

I never have much luck with getting service inside the stadium during games. Hopefully you have better luck. The new sponsorship with US Cellular is supposed to improve things and provide WiFi, but it's still a tall task with that many people in one spot. Enjoy the game. Should be perfect football weather!

That’s how I’m seeing this play out also.  A good test from here on out.  10-5-1 doesn’t guarantee them a playoff spot, but it’s possible, and they’d almost certainly miss the playoffs at 9-6-1.

So, how much better would the Packers record be if Nelson was still on the team? If your rcomment was written jokingly, then please disregard.

As per team tradition, the Packers select game captains each week. Today's captains will be QB Aaron Rodgers (offense), LB Nick Perry (defense) and LB Antonio Morrison (special teams).

Hours from kickoff now and I do expect that the offense and defense will both come to play tonight. Just get the win and head to the off week with the Bears, Vikings and Packers all sitting with 3 wins.

Out of curiousity, does the development of the younger WR's mean that Cobb, in particular, is less likely to be offered another big contract next year? Because if Rodgers gets more comfortable with the younger guys...

If they wanna play shootout, my money is on Aaron.

Crosby with the PAT! This is good news. And a recovery of a fumble by the Packers. That is certainly one way to keep the defense off the field. Will AR go for a quick score? He was looking, but settled for a "modest" gain of about 20 yards. Settling for a FG after last week almost seems like a win for the offense. By the way, does anyone else think the announcing team really, really sucks? I tried listening to TMJ, but there is a long delay between the radio broadcast and what is happening on the field.

A team that struggled to put up points against the weakass Cardinals has put up 24 points against the Packers in the 1st half.   I tried to stay optimistic but this is an embarrassment.  Anyone think that adjustments will be made at halftime?

I'm sitting behind the endzone. Witnessing the defense struggling to cover and Brice is just bad in coverage flat out. A subpar quarterback is handing it to them. On offense, Rodgers is off, and they have hardly ran anyone over the middle. When they ran MVS straight up the middle he beat the coverage but Rodgers didnt see him. It's pretty pathetic out here, and the fans here are not happy.

I am sitting in a 49er bar in Santa Clara where the Niners train. It is pretty much empty with a couple of fans. My boss gives away his season tickets and hardly anyone wants them. Their fans have given up on them yet they are taking it to us tonight.  Hopefully, the defense can play better in the 2nd half.

One way to beat the blitz is the screen pass. If I hear one more lazy color commentator say the Packers are one of the best screen teams in the league I'm gonna go crazy. That was about 10 years ago.

We would be well served to get back to the screen pass.

3rd and long and MM is predictable with his play calling.  WR runs 5 yards, Rodgers passes it, and we come up way short of a 1st down. Throw the ball down the Goddamn field!

One team is playing with pride and guts. The other team is playing as if they are overconfiic\dent, and are looking forward to the bye week too much. The defense is looking at each other as if they're expecting someone else to make the play. The Niners are gaining confidence, the Packers are looking lost and demoralized. What is going on behind the scenes to cause this kind of lack of effort?

Sad. Very sad. Once again the team comes out not ready, not fired up, not interested. There are individual flashes, but not a team effort. Time for MM to resign at the end of the season so he "can spend more time with my family". It looks like he has lost this team. A harsh judgement, but this team just doesn't have an identity, a pulse or any sense of urgency that results in timely plays in critical moments. Sure, the defense just had another excellent series. In the fourth quarter, after looking totally disinterested the first three quarters. What is going on behind the scenes for the players to be so unprepared, so lackadaisical?

If anyone watched the Sunday night game between the Pats and Chefs, that was also a barnburner. But in that game, both teams played with heart and skill. Hopefully, the off week will give the team some time to reflect, look in the mirror, and challenge themselves to be better. Next week, lets hope for a revival for this team. Rodgers just said it all: "After the bye, we've got a lot of tough games, and we'll see what kind of team we are." And then he smiled. Is he confident? Or amused? Personally, I'm hopeful but wary. This team could tank or soar. They show flashes, but flashes don't win games. Consistently making positive plays while minimizing mmistakes wins games. So, we and the Packers have 13 days to become contenders, not pretenders with sometimes great effort, sometimes total lack of effort.

Barely beat the worst team in the league at home with them playing a ton of backups? This team has major problems: lack of speed and talent on defense, no pass rush, abysmal coaching. They just struggled through the easy part of their schedule. Play like this, and they'll be 3-7-1 after the road trip.

The only good thing about this game is that we won.

The 49ers, missing their starting Qb and Rb, gave us all we could handle, and then some.  Man, that Blair guy took David B to school a couple of times, and he was lucky he did not get called for holding.  The other thing that surprised me was the Niners running game.  They ran for over 170 yards.

Good thing we have a bye.
