Good timing, LMG. I'm guessing we'll be on the clock in about 24 hours on the dot.

Prediction: We will not trade up with Cleveland for the #1 pick. Take that to the bank.

Seeing quite a few final mocks today that have Corey Davis or John Ross available at #29.  We need defense, but Id take a long serious look at either of those guys.

I cant look at any more MD's or read any more assessments LOL. Burned out. Fried. Just do it already!
But.......
In the stuff I'd read and seen before today, Ross/Williams (or Williams/Ross) were the first/second WR's off the list - with Davis coming in @ #3 - and in our drafting range - so I got to know him a bit - and he's (supposedly) a big/fast guy that runs good routes (check, check and check of sought after WR's attributes....) - and with Davante coming up for resigning - and with Jordy coming up on 32 - and with everybody thinking Cobb's overpaid - perhaps restocking the WR corp with A PLAYER wouldn't be a bad idea. Get that "WR's cant/dont do anything their first year" thought process started.

Part of my thinking regards drafting a certain RB this year is it could make Monty available to the WR corp again next year. Rotate him back up to the position he was drafted at.

That's just it GM.  If a guy like Corey Davis falls into our lap what is TT to do?  Gotta draft him IMO.  TT has allowed himself the flexibility through FA signings to do just that.  Could be a surprise tonight that none of us saw coming.

Have to say I love the draft even more than game day. Crazy!
I'm hoping we double up at CB and OLB with at least one pick from each position in the top 3.

If we can't get McCaffrey then Corey Davis is the only other offensive player I'm actively rooting for before any defensive options. (with the assumption there is -0- chance at OJ Howard)

In the last couple days I've been looking at the prospects, and to me, there seems to be a lot of talent in the 2nd to 3rd round area.

I see a top 12 to 15, then a bunch of similar talent in the top 75.

Trading down and picking up  another pick in the top 75 would sound good to me.

I'm mostly zeroed in on 5 guys (no certain order):

1.) Christian McCaffrey
2.) Corey Davis
3.) Derek Barnett
4.) TJ Watt
5.) Chidobe Awuzie

I secretly hope it's Davis or Watt, both of them have such high ceilings.

I really hope Watt or Awuzie are there at 29. Those are the two I'm most interested in at this point. I'd be okay with King as well.

Lots of wild rumors out there.  If Garret Myles is not chosen by Cleveland and they choose Trubisky, that means the other QB's will move up and other critical defenders will drop and become available to us.  There was some talk Tampa and GB were talking about a trade-up for GB into Tampa's slot.  Absolutely not in Rd. 1, but in Rds 2 or 3, I would do that!  Supposedly the 1st rd move up would be for the Florida STate RB.  If three of four first picks aren't on defense, TT and MM should both be fired as should the rest of the staff!  WAtson, Mahomes may end up going to Buffalo, Jets and maybe other QB's move up.  I would not touch Kizer with a 50' pole.  CANCER!!!!

This team will not see a Superbowl until it solves it Talent problem at the MLB position!!!  I posted my mocks and I've been harping about this for three years!!!  Yeah I know we need CB's, G, etc.  I would argue we need another safety.  Keep an eye on Desmond King/Iowa!!!  He is in my mind the best coverage DB in this draft!!!   Did I forget, he's damn good at returning kicks.  DEFENSE.   There are plenty of RB's and WRS in rds 5-6.  Two real good WRS Chad Hansen and Kenny Galladay!!!  Throw in KD cannon from Baylor, another Donald Driver.  I'd like to see a QB in RDS 7., been harping for the last six months about Kelly and Seth Russell from Baylor.  Russell is another Lynn Dickey!

Don't be surprised if the Packers and Tennessee make a deal for Hundley.  People around Tennessee are feeling Marriota won't be ready for the first four weeks.

Totally agree with this article about why you pick a pass rusher 1st and then look for a CB.
It was written with Dallas in mind (who unfortunately picks right before us) but applies to us as well.

I'm now sold on going pass rush first... I am hoping a healthy version of Rollins and Randall are much better. That being said, we still need to draft a CB. I just believe at this point having some fresh blood that can put pressure on opposing QBs will make the whole defense look better.

With the depth in this draft at the edge I don't think its imperative that 29 be used at OLB.  Actually I would be okay with OLB, CB, ILB, and RB as picks at 29 that would instantly upgrade our team, which is the main point.

Ok for a pick in round 2 at #61, not at #29.............and THAT means someone else will pull the trigger before the Packers pick there.

As much as we talk about holes, Ted has done a pretty good job of filling in depth this off season.  He looks to me to be in a position to draft whomever he thinks will be the best play maker available.  We may end up surprised tonight.

Mayock has Jackson as the #22 best talent in the draft, so it is not out of the question.

Might not be my pick, but nobody thinks my opinion is worth the big money,

Last night he mocked Tennessee RB Kamar to the Packers in the 1st round... I wouldn't like that pick in the 2nd round.

Physically, Kamara is similar to Monty. I want someone to compliment him.

I like Jackson or Michael for the 3rd back, so I want a bruiser to take Eddie's spot.

Survey says- Perine or Foreman in the 3rd round.

I think the pick will be TJ Watt or a CB. Kamara is not a 1st round pick. I think the RB that TT drafts will be a hammer, in the 3rd or 4th round.

Somewhat expecting a trade down from TT into the early second.    Some of the guys being considered will be there early in rd 2.  Unless someone falls to 29, or they have a player they love, Id probably move down a few spots, pick up another pick.  JMO.

He would need a trade partner.  I am not sure there will be anybody on the board at 29 that teams with early second round picks will feel the need to move up and get.

It is a good idea, and it could happen, but I suspect Ted will be stuck with the pick at 29.

Fricken Bears.  Yep they will suck again next year.  Pretty cavalier with picks.  2 3rds and a 4th to move one spot.  They could have got him anyway had they just stayed put.  No one had a clue they were thinking QB.  Problem with the Bears is they don't know how to develop QB's never have and never will.  Should be interesting to get the take from my friends south of the border.  Bears should just stay true to what they are build a championship D and have a solid running game.  Oh well guess they are trying to change.

Ross is so fast he may grab his hat and hug Goodell before anyone even knows he was there.

If medicals checked out - and obviously they did - he's a tremendous talent.  Certainly lots of risk with the health/size issues.   Could be REALLY dynamic with AJ Green/Eifert drawing attention.

I think CHI wayyyyyyyyyy overdrafted Trubinsky. Gave up a BOATLOAD of picks for a guy with 13 starts under his belt.
And - wouldnt think KC would give up so much for a project QB. Maybe they see something on tape - or have about had enough of Alex.

Makes getting Rogers at #24 straight up more appreciated.

Chicago is a disaster.  That GM should be canned he is an idiot.  They should have been thinking of trading back and rebuilding.  Just gave away 3 picks to move up 1 spot and draft a project QB.  He in the right situation probably could develop into a starter but we are talking about Chicago here.  Really horrible what they just did.  Just blew a golden opportunity to rebuild.  They have so many holes it's ridiculous.  What a waste they are going the way of Cleveland it's almost sad.  Hard to hate them when they are so pathetic.

Engram is the second of my five, round one guesses for the Pack, he could have made them special. He'll be something, though he did go earlier than i expected.

The one positive of going this early is that he will push another guy down to the Pack.

What's funny about this year is there are so many good players that I'm not really that interested in getting someone until the top of the 2nd. That's where I think the sweet spot for value is.

TJ Watt he was born to be a Packer.  They could still go corner White, Awuzie, and King still there.  Correct a trade back but not too far would be OK still some guys who could help us.  If TJ is still there I hope TT just pulls the trigger.  He can play inside or out.  Versatile kills 2 birds with one stone.

The Packers have traded back. They moved from No. 29 back to No. 33 – the first pick of the second round. They also got No. 108, the first pick of the fourth round. That tells you that GM Ted Thompson had plenty of his players still on the board.

Packers traded down. Stupid stupid stupid.

Two possibilities here. First the players Ted liked (at #29) are gone. Second, there are enough players with a similar grade he can trade down and get equal value. No idea why cpk thinks it is stupid, this is the kind of move smart teams make. Also an early 4th rounder means time to mull over what is there on Saturday and either get the best or sell the pick to someone else desperate for a specific player.

I think that is exactly what happened. They knew Dallas was taking a DE for a 4-3 and wouldn't interfere with who they wanted. White being gone seem to trigger the swap. TT goes to his second tier guys and maybe gives him time to investigate an injury...if you know what I mean.

He knows how deep this draft is, and like always trusts his board. He has filled some holes or at least taken pressure off his board. There is a plan, like always, and it will all be okay. Add more picks, especially when the board dictates the talent. then, like him, thinking in the future you know all the comp picks you have next year and there is "retooling" Aaron has talked about to give him more runs towards the end of his career.

Id love to be a fly on the wall tonight in the packers war room.  Got all night to sort out your pick.

TT knows what he is going to do. He's probably already in his housecoat and slippers, nightcap in hand, zoning out to Seinfeld reruns.
He has his press conference. I hope he is put on full blast by the media over Watt.

Watt missed his first two and half years of college, played his last season in a rotational role, if he  wasn't JJ's brother, was from Wisconsin, and played college at Wisconsin I doubt you would be this upset about the Packers not picking him
BE. Watt was the leader of that defense and he was the best LB they had. he played two years and was a beast. Go wTch some film because you have no idea what you are talking about.

Then why the 45 posts claiming Ramczyk is better than Spriggs and Bulaga should be moved to guard!  There were literally -0- arguments on this board until you started posting.  Tomorrow should be fun...

Thompson: Very good strategy-wise (first pick Friday). It could be we highlight a player and take him or a team sees opportunity to trade up

He's selling it.

Who's the pick tomorrow?

I say CB Kevin King!

Weaknesses:
Timed speed and play speed are both concerns. Sluggish feet in press allow quick-releasers to shoot past him. Unable to find necessary acceleration for functional makeup speed. Hands are flimsy in his jams. Could use more upper body strength. High center of gravity makes sudden change of direction a challenge. NFL ball production could be a concern. Takes path to his man over paths to the ball. Lacks desired twitch for NFL transitioning to the throws. Takes too long from bail technique and backpedal to plant and burst on the ball. Ankle biter willing to engage in too many arm tackles and blind shoulder rolls.

Draft Projection Round 1-2

Sources Tell Us:
"I'm not 100 percent sure what you do with him because he's not a physical tackler, but he's almost too tall to be trusted against shifty receivers. Maybe a team like Seattle, which love those long, press corners. Or you might see a team try and make him a free safety." -- West Coast regional scout for AFC team

NFL Comparison Damian Swann

Bottom Line:
Unusually tall cornerback with experience playing in the slot and as a starting safety. Showed improved instincts and ball production in 2016, but there are still concerns about whether he has the athleticism and recovery speed to utilize his length to play the football. Might be best suited to more zone coverage or off-man based on his speed limitations, but in either scheme he'll need to improve his aggressiveness as a tackler.

Tall I dont mind. Slow CB's concern me however.....

There is still alot of folks out there, I don't think TT is done moving back.  Perhaps overnight he gets another call from someone wanting a qb and we move back again.  Jets, Cleveland, SF need QBS still!  I Thinl TT is gonna be getting some calls!!!!

Hey it could be worst, you could be the bears who gave up four picks to move up one freaking spot!!!!!!!!

I liked Watt, Davis and the ALA LB.  We could've got two of those.  My new focus is on Jordan Willis, CB or Cunningham!!!!!  Still lots of good guys out there.  Talent from 15- 75 is around the same.  We need to make sure we get Desmond King on this team!!!!

A lot of good value still available.

I would like to pick up Chris Godwin and Samje Perine in the third, or possibly that early forth if they last that long.

Second round there is King, Moreau, Wilson and Awuzie at corner still.

There is Lawson, Bowser, Wiilis, Rivers as edge rushers.

Cunningham was thought to be a first round pick, and he is still there.

Tons of options still, so it will be interesting to see how Ted approaches the problem.  Trade back is probably a good thing, though I would like to see Ted trade for a forth pick for tomorrow night.

The usual 4th round pick on a hidden gem of an O likely won't happen in this draft as it's weak at that position and Lamp, who is heads above the rest and Efflin and Pocic (who will be gone by the 1st in the 4th) who fit the dual ability TT covets are the real choices available to help fill the Lang hole.  The pickings are really slim to find anyone for this year. So Lamp is in play.

Agree. Its just not an "impact" selection if you follow me and our "need" is a consequence of personnel moves - which is frustrating.
IMO what we NEED is IMPACT players. Fast, game changers - and drafting low PLUS moving back - challenges our ability to snag that level talent. We might need a G - and Lamp certainly would fit that slot - no argument possible from me - it would be a smart selection - but it's disappointing in that other way.

I think there are some good players that fulfill needs we have still on the board.  I am surprised that Cook is still there.

But there is also King, Moreau, Cunningham, Williams and Lamp.  But unless there was something wrong with Foster, that is the guy I would have taken.  Watching his tape, he was the best ILB in the draft, hands down.  He would have immediately benched Ryan, Thomas and Martinez.  With him and CM 3 in the middle, I mean we would have been awesome.  Against both the run and pass.  Foster is incredibly quick, hits very hard, has good range, and plays not with a motor, but with a Mack truck engine for a heart.

I just wonder is someone will trade us for Sidney Jones or Cam Robinson.

BTW, this first round could not have been scripted any better for the Vikes.  The two best centers are still there, the two best guards, and what many thought was the best tackle.

IMO, we are more than two players away from legitimately contending for a Super Bowl after almost losing to Dallas and then getting crushed by Atlanta. Honestly, I see us as at least 2 seasons away from legitimately contending--our defense needs to be rebuilt and our offense needs to be at least maintained at its current level.

Hence, I LOVE this trade down,  especially if TT can now garner an extra 3rd rnd pick from a desperate team willing to pay that price to move up to pick #33. For one, TT can add decent depth  for Oline, Dline, WR, as well as 'potentially' gain 2 eventual starters, say at RB and CB.  Add next years draft with all those picks, and we could legetimately contend for a couple seasons in a row, say 2 or 3 years from now.

I love it that TT is facing the reality that we wont get beyond this plateau we've been at and reach the Super Bowl unless we do a semi-rebuild of the defense and keep the offense sufficiently stocked.

And yes, in that light of thinking 2-3 years from now, picking a potential starter at OG like Lamp would make sense. If TT thought we were legitimate contenders next year and only needed a couple starters, then yes, this trade down was wrong. But he doesnt. He is addressing the reality of the situation and I'm glad he is. Draft and develop, baby!

I don't hear mention about Quincy Wilson at S or possibly CB...just not considered in the mix at this stage?

Ted is listening:

“General manager Ted Thompson did note that he is open to shopping the first pick of day two: ‘Oh yeah, you can put that down,' he said. ‘That’ll save us a couple of phone calls.”

Tomorrow will be Most Interesting!

Not a super credible source, but some NFL guys on Twitter seem to think there is a bit of interest in our first pick of the 2nd round.

If a decent number of teams want that, I say put a price tag of a mid 2nd and a 3rd on the pick.  At that point you would have two 2nds, two 3rds, and two 4ths (and two 5ths).  Try and move a 3rd and both 4ths for a late 2nd and we come away with three 2nd rounders and a 3rd rounder.

Pipe dream, but with the law of averages, that would likely net us 2 good players with a chance at a 3rd if the cards fall right.

(if we were to trade back and have 4 picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, wherever they may be, would love to grab Mixon first.  Then spend a pick or two on corners and the best available defensive player with the other, in whatever order makes the most sense based on the board)

Here’s an article with a list of some of the more well-known prospects who are still available, specifically those who might interest the Packers:

Quincy Wilson can be a good CB, but there were so many good ones in this draft that he got pushed out of the first round.

That and he lack elite speed, much like Desmond King many project him as a safety in the long run.

The temper of this board will really rise when Lamp is picked tomorrow.
No. not happening.

Especially after we signed Evans.

Slow CB's concern me however
.....

We already have one of those...   :P

Packers are getting calls about pick 33.  Teams looking at QBs Kizer and Davis Webb.  May be some fireworks tomorrow.

Man, am I glad we don't need a QB this year!    :P

I cannot believe we traded out of that pick if Foster is healthy.  That guy is a beast.  I am tired of playing teams with good young LB's that I have never heard of.  My kingdom for an LB picked before the 3rd round.

Payne85

Foster might not be healthy.  Why else would a guy like him fall like a rock?

Mayock on NFL Network "reluctantly" reported that late bad medical information came out on Foster. He reported it when DET was supposed to make a selection - they were in the market for an ILB - and if they didnt select Foster it would "reflect badly on him/that medical news...." - well, they selected the ILB from Florida. Thats certainly not conclusive - but if could be something. The guy HITS like a MAC TRUCK!

Disastrous Combine, getting kicked out and failing the Combine drug test with a diluted sample.   History of shoulder problems including stingers as well as at least one diagnosed concussion.  With his bat-out-of-hell playing style probably a lot of worries of additional concussions (see Kuechly, Luke)

Not a surprise Foster fell with all those issues - but having said that would have LOVED to have added him (or Watt) to our team.   Legit three down backer with the play mentality to become the identity of your team.  Mike Daniels may have been so excited even his twitter account got pregnant

You do realize the Packers did beat the Cowboys on their turf? You do realize that Atlanta was on their twice a decade run, and will probably fade into obscurity this year? You do realize the Packers defensive backfield was decimated by injury, that Matthews was playing hurt, and that the team health overall was not good. So, to say they're two to three years away is nonsense. The Packers are perennial SB contenders for a reason. And the idea of "one or two players away" is dangerous. Because then you draft for perceived need, or sign that expensive FA at the position of perceived need, fall short, and are limited by self imposed circumstances from making the team better. In short, I reject your premise and your pessimism.

Something else worth mentioning is McCarthy's comment on how each years locker room has a different feel. That is important to him, which means it probably should be, for us. There is no point guessing how that falls out, but it is likely to have a significant impact on the team. Just one more variable that cannot easily be factored in, to the overall performance in 2017.

I don't believe the Packers are 4 TD favorites over Seattle or NY Giants any more than I think ATL was a heavy favorite over GB in the Playoffs.   Sports are funny that way but it's the last impression of the team we had.   It only stands to reason that if people think we can't compete with ATL and have no shot at a SB than NY Giants and Seattle - both teams we beat 38-10 and 38-13 - have -0- chance to be competitive.  Or does that standard only apply to GB?

Trading out of the first round may have been a brilliant move, but it's not particularly exciting. :)

I'm going to have to see some real improvement on the defensive side before I believe this team can make it through a tough playoff run.  I suppose sometimes you win a Super Bowl when you least expect it.  Can't think of an example of that, but right now I don't expect it.

More often than not, the best moves are the unexciting, quiet ones. Good teams often trade back and get extra picks. Poor (and more desperate) teams trade up and do the big money FA deals.

I'm not arguing your point, but when Ted traded up to get CMIII I thought that was one of his most exciting draft days.  I didn't think that was desperate.  When you can get an impact player, that's hard to replace.

I was a proponent of Watt as well.  However, he was not a beast for two years.  Correct me if I am wrong but did he not miss the entire 2015 season due to knee injuries?  He only played, albeit very well, OLB for one season?
