Best DE/NT left
« on: March 13, 2014, 09:21:47 AM »
Who are the best DE or NT left out there?  I am hoping the Packers get somebody for one of those spots.  I am not as up to date on who the free agents are but is Raji now the best guy left?

For NT, Raji is probably the best one left.  Sad.  For a 3/4 DE probably Antonio Smith from the texans.  There are not many 3-4 type players left as far as defensive line.  They have all signed or they are older than dirt.

Yup, I was about to post the same thing. Maybe Alex Carrington? Sigh.

Not to worry, Worthy, Daniels, Jones and Boyd are each ideally suited to the 3-4 scheme. Just hand the rest of the playing time to some unprepared rookies and we're good to go.

Sigh, indeed.

the answer in a day or two could be Vince Wilfork.  i'd LOVE to see the Pack sign him!  i know he had a torn achilles but the guy is beastly and if he can get back to even 75% of what he was, he would be huge for our defense.

100% agreed!  He would b a great 2-3 year stop-gap allowing the pack to find a younger heir to the position in the mid rounds while targeting S,TE,MLB and DE earlier (assumes eds is our next internal re-sign).

I thought I heard that Seneca Wallace indicated in an interview that Raji already signed with us, just has not been reported.

Needless to say, I am pretty upset we didn't add someone of value for the line.

So far, Thompson has decided the status quo is fine, 2 years of awful defense would prove otherwise.

Haha, there's less than a .01% chance of Thompson making that sort of investment into a guy he didn't draft.

Yes, you know that layoff from the seasons end to free agency gives you time to decompress and forget all about what you were going to do to change things on your team.  I can just see Ted looking at that defensive roster and thinking you know we got some good players here why isn't it working and boom another offseason of the same, then next November we all here wondering why we have no players on defense.

Hopefully we won't have all the injuries like the last 2 years...injuries that included depth players.

ESPN says Vance Walker was in for a visit.  He had 3 sacks and 40 tackles this past season and is only 26.  This seems like more of a TT signing.  Not Houston, but the "other guy" from Oakland...

Tom Silverstein tweeted earlier that Letroy Guion will visit Green Bay on Sunday. We've also re-signed Raji apparently.

Wow... Vic at Packers.com listed him as 1 of 5 FA's he would be interested in.

1. Devin Hester, KR

2. Ryan Wendell, C

3. Tarell Brown, CB

4. Letroy Guion, DT

5. Jim Leonhard, S

Now that they've signed Peppers, Neal and Raji, I'd still like to see them take a look at Letroy Guion. Peppers and Neal are both outside guys and Raji is moving back to NT (about time.) depending on what happens with both Pickett and Jolly, they could still use another veteran guy to play inside. Guion was a 3tech playing at NT. He's still young enough to have upside and could fill a spot in the rotation.

Terrence Cody (BAL) is still available, though I doubt TT decides to sign him.  Not sure how much he's looking for or for how long, but could be insurance at NT if Raji plays like last year.
