Justin Gilbert: Former Top 10 CB Released
« on: February 06, 2017, 05:17:30 PM »
This post is an FYI. I’ve never heard of Justin Gilbert, but no doubt some of you draft-niks have. In any case, the Steelers cut him today, so I guess that makes him a free agent. Joe Thomas’ comment, and the ESPN article make it sound like the guy’s a slacker.

He was drafted #8 by Cleveland in 2014, and is 6’ and 202 pounds:

You nailed it with the "slacker" comment. But, then again, why not put him on the off season roster? If he turns out to be a slacker, cut him, no muss, no fuss. This is the kind of guy that NE would turn around and make productive. We're talking about making GB more like NE, why not take a chance?

Browns OT, Joe Thomas, tweeted this
"If you don't like football, it doesn't matter how talented you are, your star will burn out quick".

The NFL just isn't like college, where you can coast with superior physical ability. Too many other guys also have superior athletic ability, along with superior work-ethic, diagnostic skills, anticipation, heart.

Sometimes it takes a "wake up call" like getting cut and sitting/waiting for the phone to ring to shock a "slacker" into putting his athletic talent to work. Eating humble pie can be a very good thing for the larger than life ego's that these kinds of players seem to have.

If he's still unemployed after the first week of free agency frenzy, I'd be fine with bringing him in.
