Raiding the Ravens??????????
« on: January 25, 2013, 09:53:49 AM »
They are 5 mil over the cap and must get a deal done with Flacco which would put them 20 mil over.

Safety Ed Reed still wants to play and his contract is up and he's a free agent.

DL Gruber is also a free agent and would be a nice piec to add to the DL.

And LBer Ellersby is a free agent and would look nice with Matthews and Bishop.

The Pack are currently one of the teams in the bidding for CB Revis, but if they would lose out, picking off one of these players would bring some attitude and production to the Defense.

And Lewis hanging it up clears $6M and Flacco's cap hit will not be close to a $15M cap increase

T, with all due respect, I am dead set against Revis in GB. A diva, and an expensive one at that. Seems that GB already had that excitement with a former QB- old what's his name.

Here's a list of Ravens FA's (note- early in 2012)

Now, to the Ravens you mentioned. Reed is older than dirt in football years. Two years maximum, he's retired. And he probably won't come cheap. Ellerbe (LB) is a RFA. I couldn't find a DL player named Gruber for the Ravens (this from their SB roster), though there was a CB named Gorrer, an Exclusive Rights FA. Instead, McKinney (DT) and McClain (LB) are UFA's, and could be intriguing prospects for the Packers.

Ed Reed is washed up. He is Charles Woodson. ala a guy making way to much who is on his last legs if not already needing a walker. Both great players but way past their primes. Don't waste money on old washed up players. Packers learned that twice with Hardy Nickerson and Jeff Saturday.

Ricky I think whoever mentioned Gruber??? was probably referring to Paul Kruger, who will be an attractive FA option.

Paul Kruger is the only Raven UFA I'd be interested in. He's an OLB, not a DL, so I'm not sure if he's the mysterious "Gruber" or not. :-P

Kruger is a darned good player.  Tough.  Reminds me of a quicker Kampman.

I'd be very interested in either of the Ravens LB's.  If I could choose between the two, I'd probably take Ellerbe, but he seems to be BAL's next highest priority after Flacco.  Landing Kruger would be a very nice consolation prize though.

Is this a serious overture by TT or is he just "kicking the tires"?  He likes to do that kicking around of things every year but he never seems to be overly serious.  Signing Revis would possibly be close to par with the signing of Reggie White.  Just depends on the contract situation.

Just for excersize let's look at who helps the most in money spent:

Revis- lots of money and DP's...does he erally make that much of a difference over Shields, House and Williams. For the cost vs the gain I don't hink so

Ellerby- the cost vs gain over say Hawk is monumental in my eyes

Kruger- cost vs gain over Perry might be minimal...cost vs gain over Walden, different story probably worth it

I think we would do well to poach the two line backers from Baltimore.  I will be curious what they want in $$$ though.

Let's just forget about Revis, i don't think it will ever happen

Ellerby- Ravens NEED to re-sign with Ray's retirement....suppliment Ellerby at Hawk's salary I'd be satisfied. I think Ellerby and Bishop, when  healthy, would be a dynamite combo

Kuger- could get lots of attention...Pitts needs OLB, again suppliment Kruger for Harrison at same money, a win for Pitts

In our favor both the Ravens and Pitts are in cap hell
