Its Showtime Ladies!!! Who is the Pick?
« on: April 24, 2019, 12:52:44 PM »
Here's the Deal, coming up on 24 hrs before the draft

Enough of the shotgun approach to the Packers pick,  you get one player, and he has to make it to 12

Pick who you think the Packers will pick at 12,  (No trades or multiple choices or scenarios)

ONE PLAYER AND WHY!!!

Im taking Jonah Williams, OT, Alabama.

He may not make it to 12, and there are a number of players that could fall that Id take over him, but he's versatile enough to play Guard or Tackle which is invaluable today.  Bulaga is solid when healthy but is a rickety barn as far as durability and in the last year of his contract.  You can start Turner off at Guard with Bulaga at Tackle.  Develop Williams as a Tackle,  if that doesnt work out he can slip inside and play guard.   Its his position flexibility that makes him valuable.  The other tackles in this upper first round dont have that flexibility, its sink or swim at OT (Remember Sherrod?).   Keep in mind this isnt TT and McCarthy anymore,  its LeFleur and a reported change to the running game.  That changes a lot on how they draft and what to target.

If they pass on him, no harm, no foul.   I get it!!! There are some viable options out there at OT at 12 or even later in the draft, and they do have some holes to fill at other spots which would also fit at 12.

Feel free to hack away at my pick, but at least have the balls to put your guy up there and why.   Remember he has to make it to 12.

My choice is a pass rusher, between Burns and Ferrell.

While I prefer Ferrell (but only just) over Burns, the importance the Packers place on athleticism makes me think BURNS will be the choice at #12.

There is some variation of opinion as to where Burns goes, and the rumours around Sweat and his heart condition (and the fall of Polite) make Burns availability at #12 less likely, but he is my choice. His ability to run the arc well makes a good complement to the Smiths who are more power guys. I could make a case for a DL like Oliver, Wilkins or Simmons, but I can only have one pick and Burns is it.

At #30 my favourite is DL Jeffery Simmons. That pick would be a triumph of hope over expectation. I don't expect him to be there but would take him if he is, over Fant, Hockenson, D.K.Metcalf, Tillery, Adderley, etc etc. Since I expect him to be gone my choice at #30 would be NASIR ADDERLEY

While I'm on board with drafting the replacement for Bulaga, I'm just not feeling an OL at #12 and then let him sit/learn for a year before taking over.

The Packers need and want to win now, Rodgers was just commenting about that over the last few days. Drafting & Developing is not a win now mentality, and that's probably part of the reason they signed OL Billy Turner.

I guess I feel similarly, but not as strongly, about Edge at #12, because I can see that player getting some PT when Z-Smith slides inside on passing downs.

I even feel that way, a little bit, about DL, but I do think that a great player like an Ed Oliver (should he drop to #12) would get a serious amount of PT right away.

TE and ILB could be the best opprtunities for finding a playmaker at #12. Both are a need, and both have deserving talent that could be available at #12

The #12 pick needs to be a day 1 starter and be making an impact very early on in the season.

(two cents)

ps...........I already posted my final mock so picking my #12 here would be redundent.

Devin Bush. There is a pretty good chance he drops to #12, and he could be an immediate impact player on defense, which the Packers need.

Ok. If Taylor were to drop, he would be my pick. I have reservations about Dillard and Williams. Do not think White, Oliver, or Hockenson will be there either.
I would select Jerry Tillery for the following reasons.
1) Huge athletic guy with the potential to add another 15 lbs of muscle easy.
2) In Pettine's defense, IMO he would be a better version of Wilkerson.
3) Teamed with Clark and ZDS, would there be a better inside pass rush in the NFL?
4) No way he is there at #30.
Seems a little early, but if you like a guy, take him. If he performs like he potentially could, who cares when he was picked.

Think the Pack may trade out of this pick.

If not I am going with Wilkins.

I believe it will come down to Andre Dillard, Christian Wilkins or Jerry Tillery. Since I think their is good chance Dillard will be taken before the Packers pick, so with a gun to my head, I would go with Wilkins.

Footballdad, the thing with Taylor that I would find concerning if I was a GM is he has had a knee issue off-n-on in college and he ballooned to 380 pounds one off season. If that happens as a teenager, what happens after he get paid as an adult? He would not be the first guy that ate himself out of the NFL.

I'm going with Hockenson at 12 and a trade up for Simmons for the second pick 1st round pick.

The concern with Tillery is his off field interests.  The guy is into politics and world issues.  Some teams are concerned he'll play a couple years and move on to something else.  Very good player, but can you motivate him to play and stay?

D. Bush - fills a major hole in the middle, take tackle and cover....makes the defense much better...

I'm with Ricky and Packlaw. Bush will be there at 12 and he is an immediate upgrade in the middle of the defense. He completes the quick turnaround effort by Gute and company.

Jawaan Taylor.

Could play any position except Center on O line.  Best O Line avail

Hopefully, the draft gets QB happy and drops him to 12.

Oh, my son and I are in Nashville for draft.  We'll have fun!

I'm torn between 2, one offense and one defense.

Juwaan Taylor on O and Devin Bush on D.

The question I must answer is how big the dropoff is it from that player to one at that position that I could get at say pick #30

It would seem there's a much bigger dropoff at inside linebacker than OT, so I guess my choice would be Devin Bush. I know a lot of folks don't think ILB is a premium position but I beg to differ. Great defenses start with the QB of the defense, the MLB. Pettine's defense is about bringing pressure up the middle. By the way, anyone here remember Ray Nitchke?

If you like a guy with a 6 wonderlic score, then Bush is your guy.  Based on Washington wanting to move up to get Haskins, we could be a trade partner to move back. Not sure what the Raiders and AZ are doing and expect a curve ball there.  Jets want to move back, but at what price and they are desperate to move back.  Would you move up with two ones to get that # 3 and a game changer?  This isn't the TT regime and waiting and let the draft come to you.  These guys were in the Khalil Mack discussions last year.  I'm moving up and drafting Josh Allen at #3!

Not that I don't believe you but where did you see that Bush got a 6 on the wonderlic?
