Bob McGinn's mock today has us taking Jeff Simmons at 12.  I try to expect the unexpected, but that stopped me in my tracks.

I have felt that the market for Simmons started at 24 with Oakland and their 2nd pick in the first round, but when Seattle landed a second 1st rounder from KC, I lowered that to the 21st pick. But I understand the logic there, an uninjured Simmons would be a top 3-5 pick in this draft and the Packers are probably looking to draft Daniels replacement for next year in this years draft. The but here for me is that the Packers have no history of drafting such players, just the opposite in that they normally avoid the injured. The few times they didn't it hasn't worked out so well, Justin Harrell is the first name to come to mind for me.

Same here, thought the exact same thing about Harrell after processing McGinns pick.  BTW, McGinn picked Thornhill at 30.

I personally think Thornhill is the #1 perfect fit in this draft for the Packers, will be interesting to see if he is there and the Packers feel the same way.

There are like four safeties to me who would be all great fits in GB I would have them as 1a/1b/1c/1d . Thornhill, Adderley, CGJ, and Savage. All some what similar players. All four are free safeties and all four are versatile and can play the slot. I would be happy with any of those four at 30

We all have are opinions about prospects and that is part of the fun of the process, but don't agree with you that they are 1a/1b/1c/1d. Thornhill checks all the boxes, has the size, is the most athletic and IMO is the best ballhawk of that group. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson is 5'10" and their has been character questions raised going back to January. Savage is a nice player and I love his game, but he is also 5'10" which is a negative for the Packers. And I don't believe they would draft Adderley because of the family legacy in GB, not to mention that I don't see him in the same tier as the other 3.  They all have a chance of being good pro's, just don't buy the 1a/1b/1c/1d thing.

Landing both Hockenson and Burns in the 1st and still making 9-10 picks. Trade down from 12 and trade up from 30 if they fall into place. Burns/ Fant may be a reality.

Don't discount S Deionte Thompson, he seems underrated at the moment. Amani Hooker's pretty good as well. They could both play some single high in a pinch.
I don't want us to take Taylor Rapp at #30 or #44.

Whats important here is getting the right player, and while we may all disagree with whoever they select throughout this draft, the ULTIMATE test is what they do in the Fall.

The stupidest thing in sports is the NFL post draft grades given out the days after a draft.    AT THE VERY LEAST, let them actually get on the field, and prove or disprove their selection.   Different schemes, locations, coaches, and roles can sway a players performance either way.  Let each player play it out and see what happens. true, that is why I stated it was my opinion basically to me we cant go wrong with any of them to me. Just FYI though CGJ was 5/10 7/8ths at the combine so 5'11 which is well within the packers minimum height for a DB. Savage was 5'10 3/4 again within the packers minimums. Nick Collins was 5'11 so their height shouldn't be a problem(not saying either of them will be as good as him).

Anybody remember Justin Harrell?  Just kinda similar circumstances

Simmons, the good: https://www.nfl.com/prospects/jeffery-simmons?id=32195349-4d20-4336-493b-a309c446eb8f

Yes, there is the altercation and beating of a woman- well, if that isn't enough, then everything is good. But this seems like a deal breaker.

Simmons, the injury: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001017723/article/mississippi-st-dt-jeffery-simmons-suffers-torn-acl

The comparison to Harrell is not exact. Harrell was injury prone from high school through college, and could never get rid of that jinx. Simmons has a serious injury, but this doesn't seem to be a chronic problem for him. The question being, will the injury affect his effectiveness on the field? So, over look abuse of a female, and hope the injury won't be recurring and will not affect his game. Big, big gamble at #12, or even #30.

Biggest possible shock? The Packers decide to draft a QB in the first round.

In a good or bad way?

Good - Quinnen Williams drops far enough that #12 and #30 swing the deal or they trade back a few spots and pick up an extra 2nd or 3rd. Devin White falls to 12.

Bad - Selecting any QB. Picking DK Metcalf @12. Simmons available @ 30 and they pass.

The trade to the 3rd pick with the Jets if Williams is still there may be a real possibility. Jets General Manager Mike Maccagnan is in a must win this year or he is out situation and he needs picks this year. All the rumored offers are from teams that lack ammo this year and want to use 2020 picks to move up, Maccagnan has openly said he would take less then actual value to trade the pick. The Packers have more quality picks to trade than the teams rumored to want to trade up. What are the odds? I would guess 10% at best, but I believe it is still something worth watching at the start of the draft.

Sounds like there’s a pretty good chance the #Jets trade down. One team already under the impression the Jets have a deal worked out with another team if Q Williams is available at 3.

Allen falls to 12 and we grab him.  We draft Lock at 12.  Yeah either of those would pretty much blow my mind.  One in a good way the other not so much.

Per Schefter, the Packers are trying to move up from 30. No teams or target named.

Could be part of giving up both #1s to move up???

If Allen falls to 12. That would blow my mind.

Gary at #12 blew my mind. I hope Im wrong, but also at LBer? Maybe moving between end and LB? Did Pettine have a lot of say in this pick? If so, then I'd feel a lot better about the pick.
