Giants release Ahmad Bradshaw
« on: February 06, 2013, 02:21:17 PM »
The Giants just released Ahmad Bradshaw.  He's still only 26.  They also released Chris Canty.

How would a RB group of Harris, Bradshaw and Green look?

Bradshaw just had another surgery on his feet (foot).  Of the  two injured players I'd prefer Canty.  If healthy a good answer to our DE needs IMO.  Bradshaw may be more of an injury concern than Starks, although when healthy a fa

If he would pass medically give him a short (two years) with low base (3 million total contract) with low guarantee (1 million) and give him incentives (2-3 million).

I'd be in favor of signing him. He's one of the best pass blocking backs in the league, so you know McCarthy will love that, and if we can keep him healthy by spelling him with Harris and Starks we'd actually have a pretty impressive group of RBs.

Injured too much.  We have plenty of those guys.  Plus, I believe he has a fumbling issue. thumbsdwn)
It's not what he doesn't know that bothers me. It's what he knows for sure that just ain't so!-Will Rogers

Yeah, I like Bradshaw, but we already have a rb who's always hurt. I don't particularly think Bradshaw's a good fit for us unless he comes very very cheap. Good player, though.

Someone will give Bradshaw more than Thompson would value him at...

I'd like a look at Canty, but didn't he have some not so nice things to say about GB after his last visit through before signing w/ the NYG?

Bradshaw will turn only 27 in March.  Many have the opinion that he's often injured (has had a couple of foot surgeries), yet has averaged 14 games/season.  Different systems and offensive lines, but below is a comparison of Bradshaw and Ahman Green (his 7 super-productive seasons w/ GB - averaged 13.7 games/season).

Rushes  Yds    Avg. #Fumbles    Recpt.    Yds.    Avg. Fumbles  Total TD's
Bradshaw    921    4,232    4.6      15             132      1,087   8.2       1             35
Green        1,810   8,162     4.5      27             347     2,708   7.8       7             67

Bradshaw had a 4 yr/$18Mil contract, but by cutting him NYG frees-up $3.75Mil on their cap in '13.
Bradshaw would instantly become our #1 back, better than we've had since AG.  I would think a 3 yr./$8 or $9 Mil with some incentives would be giving him "respect".

He didn't take a visit to GB. Canty went to NY at the start of FA and while in NY his agent tried to get TT to commit to the framework of a deal before he would come to GB for the visit.  TT wouldn't give him that without him coming to GB (which I argued he was right in doing at the time) and Canty signed in NY - probably for much more $ than he would have in GB.

Agent said something along the lines of that's how they handle things in GB and he respects TT for it - but wasn't bringing his client to GB without some semblance of a deal

Thanks for the history lesson... could recall the details. Thompson was right and Canty and his agent look like d-bags.

Canty got a big K from the Giants and he won a Super Bowl with them. Neither he nor his agent ever disparaged GB, but rather the agent said TT does things differently from most other GMs when it comes to free agency. That statement is not controversial it is simply a fact. Indeed, TT seems proud of the fact GB is not much of a player in free agency under his watch.

So how do Canty and his agent possibly look like d-bags, I don't understand.

Wasn't it Ellis another DL who wouldn't come to GB without a contract offer?

Canty's physical measurments fit like a good ole glove.... I'll leave everything else up to TT :o
