Is that a bus rolling by? Let's throw Eddie Lacy under it!

I cannot remember him every doing this to one of his players. This is a violation of a sacred vow to keep things in house. Desperation? No matter you don't do it regardless if it's accurate or not.

I thought this was a little odd.  We'll see if it lights a fire under him.

Which one?

MM calling Lacy out.  Out of character and unwarranted in my opinion.  His fumble was unacceptable but I don't think he has been given much of a chance to succeed given the play calls and run blocking this year.

How is this McCarthy throwing Lacy under the bus?

McCarthy has said on multiple occasions that he doesn't like to call out players and criticize them in front of the media.  He even called such a tactic "chicken sh!t."  His protocol has always been to address players face-to-face, not backhandedly in the media.

McCarthy was reiterating that point in his presser today.  Context is important here:  McCarthy was asked about Lacy's play.  He read the question as a reporter attempting to goad him into admonishing a player publicly.

Saying Lacy "needs to play better" isn't throwing him under the bus:  it's stating the painfully obvious in a way that doesn't criticize the player further.  I mean, what is McCarthy supposed to say:  Lacy's been playing well?

When Lacy fumbled, I said:  I would bench him the rest of the game.  After seeing what Starks did, I felt even more confident in that approach.

Lacy's play has been putrid.  The line hasn't been good, but his play has been worse.  He's hesitant.  He's dancing.  He's opting to bounce outside instead of run between the tackles.  He's slow.

Saying Lacy needs to play better is an understatement.

Its a coach telling a player to get in gear.
Of course, when you want the coach fired, he's not entitled to say these things - but he's right.

"As NFL Network's Mike Mayock artfully pointed out Monday, the Lions gave Green Bay the opportunity to succeed on the ground in Week 3. Detroit regularly played four-man fronts, but the Packers got beat at the point of attack too often and Lacy wasn't good enough to make up for it. Success in the backfield will set up success for Aaron Rodgers. McCarthy's message through the media was clear: Lacy needs to start carrying his weight"

You'll note his comment doesn't mention a bus.

Most posters here think the play calling has been horrendous, every comment on the nfl.com link says McCarthy needs to look at himself, and somehow it's eddie's fault?

Yes, because McCarthy fumbled. -_-

Starks is averaging 5.0 yards a carry on the season.
Lacy is averaging 3.1.

I like Lacy too, but he sucks right now.

Correct.
End of fantasy people.
It can be done. He's telling Lacy to do it. Good.

Agreed, not trying to say Eddie is awesome, just that McCarthy should learn to pick his timing a bit better...

He was asked a question about his play.

As I said above:  how would you prefer he respond?

Again:  I felt that response, if anything, was a tame understatement.
