Todd McShay's First Mock
« on: December 12, 2012, 10:23:00 AM »
Has the Packers drafting 27th

Quote
Jonathan Cooper*, G, North Carolina

Guard might not be a top need for the Packers, but Cooper's combination of quickness, balance, power and good feet make him a perfect fit in the Packers' zone-stretch scheme. He is the best blocker in space in the class and a top-15 talent who would bring good value at this point.

If it is not a center go defense.

I love the pick. He can play C, and if for some reason he can't pick up the C position than we can replace Lang with him. Maybe Lang could move to C or be depth in that scenario. I've liked Cooper for a long time. I don't think he'll be there, but he is an OG and Warmack is also there so if a team picks Warmack over Cooper (I like Cooper more) than Cooper could fall.
I AM NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH DREW BOYLHART!!

I think that there's a better than average chance that he'll still be on the board when the Packers pick. If he is, it's a no-brainier. Value meets need. 10 year starter and perfect for Green Bay. Would allow them to keep EDS as a reserve (which is where he's most valuable IMO.)

I'd love this pick.

I like the pick but doubt at this point he's still on the board at our pick, after reading the recent trends on the current Mocks out there and the reports on players' stock status....

I suppose I won't complain with this pick.  I'll be honest I'm a sucker for flashy picks and this isn't one, but if it keeps Rodgers upright, it will make everything else flashy to make up for it.  :D
If you're gonna be dumb, you've gotta be tough.

Solid pick if he's there.  I won't complain.

Other guy I have my eye on is Jesse Williams (DT).

Fisher is another possiblity.

Looking at the board looks like a good year to trade down a little bit if no big guys are available.

Good value in the 2nd for WR, TE, and RB

I love that idea and was thinking about it myself.  This is a draft that may be a little "weak" in big guys, but there are a lot of skill players, but most of the guys have question marks around them.  This is kind of ideal for a trade down scenario.

Like the pick at OG but McShay should know the Packers will be picking 32nd! :)

It's entirely possible he won't be there, but you've been doing this long enough to know that internet mock trends(in December!) have nothing to do with where a player will ACTUALLY be drafted.

True. And this next draft could be very interesting if there is a big amount of coaching and GM changes in the off season. Heck the bears might be another team that might have coaching changes after this season if they miss the play-offs.

This year will depend on where the runs on what positions happen at. the things we do know is teams need protectors for the QB, pass rushers, shut down corners and franchise QBs and seem to place priority on them every draft in round one.

Can he coach the offensive line?  That'd be a valuable asset.
