But back OT a prevent defense is when you keep everything in front of you and force your opponent to use up as much of the game clock as necessary.  I hate this especially if you are only up by 7 or 3.  I think this works best if you are up by 2 scores, frankly, because if they score on you and tie the game late they can force over time and lord knows what can happen then.  I agree, we weren't in a prevent against SD.  We were really in survival mode and stopped them cold on 4th down on the 3 yard line.  That game didn't do much for our collective blood pressure, that's for sure!

Ok, I admit to something I'm just not clear on. What exactly is supposed to be the purpose of a prevent defense, which doesn't seem to prevent anything - except winning? Though true, pack did make a good goal line stand at the end of yesterday's game.
They didn't play a prevent. They were blitzing almost every play on the last drive and getting killed for it.
