too Good to be true Mike Singletary on Coaches list
« on: January 08, 2013, 06:52:14 PM »
Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery has at least 12 candidates on his list to interview as he searches for the club’s next head coach and it is expected there are more.

Minnesota Vikings special assistant Mike Singletary and Vikings special teams coach Mike Priefer have been added to Emery’s list, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Singletary had a Hall of Fame playing career with the Bears but was fired after less than three seasons as a head coach for the San Francisco 49ers. Priefer is a highly regarded special teams coach and he and Emery worked together at Navy during the mid-1990’s.

The belief is that the McCaskeys are pushing the interview for Singletary. Priefer is the third special teams coach to be on the Bears’ list and it would be a surprise if Bears special teams coordinator Dave Toub does not also get an interview.

Hiring Singletary as coach is similar to signing Tebow to be your starting QB. All marketing and no winning.
It's what it's.

It would be loverly but I'm thinking they are going to go in another direction - offense - and are interviewing Singletary out of respect for a great old Bear.

I'm not so sure. I read somewhere that the owners wanted Singletary to be interviewed.  And if the owner's really want him, well.....

We can hope, right?

Heh.  I was coming into this thread to post exactly this.

But it probably is a Rooney Rule thing.  Still, with the Bears you never know... :-\

Allow me to play devil's advocate for a moment...

Seems to me when Singletary was in San Fran, while the team wasn't good, the talent was accumulated.  Many of the players on that roster were drafted or signed when Singletary was coaching there.

Again, I have no idea if he would bury them or not, but just a thought from the other side perhaps?

Coaches have input, somehow I doubt Singletary put together those drafts

That was a side-effect of the losing they did under him.

The one laudable thing Singletary did at SF was fixing Vernon Davis' attitude problem. In every other way, he was a disaster.

If that is what it takes to get the most out of your ultra athletic tight end, then I say McCarthy needs to try it!
