I am not sure anyone on the list from above really excites me.  If you look at the up and comers - then these guys have to be the favorites:

John DeFilippo
Pete Carmichael
Matt LaFleur
Eric Bienemy

All of them have their warts and I don't think any of them will really excite the fan base.  I don't believe Carmichael or Bienemy have called plays and that is a worry.  LaFleur and DeFilippo are calling them for the first time this season.

Some retreads that would be interested:

Bruce Ariens
Jeff Fischer
Gary Kubiak

Ariens had success, but he doesn't fit the young mold.  Fischer would install some toughness, but he never won the big game.  Kubiak, pretty good offensive mind, but is his health and energy there.

College guys:

Lincoln Riley - seems destined for Dallas at some point.
Chris Peterson - not sure has did enough to be an NFL coach

One guy that is getting play is Kliff Kingsbury.  I would not be opposed to a defensive guy and then bring in Kingsbury as the OC.

I don't know who the next coach will be.  I would imagine the Packer job will be an attractive one and will garner a lot of interest.

Murphy confirms he will be the one to make the final call on the next head coach.

That is fairly disappointing to hear.

I'm a little surprised by this, but a fly on the wall just told me that Matt Campbell from Iowa State is probably the only college coach with strong consideration for the Packers job. All the others are current coordinators. Things that make you go hmmmm.

Yes I thought the same thing.  Really both guys should be in agreement on the choice.  If either objects he's probably not the right guy.  Gotta say I really like Gute.  Murphy is a good football man also.  I am sure they will make a wise choice.

Not sure I can think of a worse idea than the Packers hiring Urban Meyer

I think it is fairly safe to say that Urban Meyer will never coach in the NFL.

There are many better candidates out there with NFL experience than Meyer IMO, but Murphy has a lot of Big 10 ties.  Very unlikely but the timing is just weird.

My top 3 are:
Jim Harbaugh
Josh McDaniel
Lincoln Riley

No idea if any of them are interested, or if the Packers are interested in them.  Have some concerns about McDaniels loyalty. Also doubtful Harbaugh leaves Michigan now with Urban Meyer gone.

I think hard-nosed, big personality Parcells types need not apply.

Rodgers needs a VERY forward thinking offensive minded coach that will be able to treat AR more like a partner and will challenge him mentally. (While keeping it understandable for the rest of the team) I think if you find a guy in this mold, you'll see a reinvigorated Rodgers in 2019.

And for those reasons you have to include Philbin in the list of names.

He checkes off all those boxes.

It will be interesting to follow the final 4 games and see how this team, but especially Rodgers, performs for Philbin.

Exactly. Unless a current guy with head coaching experience is named Belichek, McVey or Harbaugh, he isnt needed. Get someone who clearly turned a team around as a coordinator.

With Murphy's refusal to step aside on this coaching hire, is it possible that he is attempting to angle towards hiring his boy from Northwestern, Pat Fitzgerald?

If you wanted to get the most out of AR, then Tedford would be in the running.

Jeff Tedford discovered AR when no one was really looking for him at Chico State.  He then made him a star at Cal.

What Tedford did this year with Fresno State is something of a miracle.

He is really an offensive guru.

I would think this is about a zero chance. He is 57 YO, not a deal breaker, but his health is. Took 2013 off, had to quit in 2014 for heart surgery. In 2015, well in the CFL had to leave again with 6 games left to play. This doesn't even take into account his one failed attempt as an OC in the NFL. A little late in the day to ask that old dog to hunt.
