Landon Collins to Green Bay?
« on: March 01, 2019, 04:53:28 PM »
Found this interesting, may be something to this, or there may not be.

The Packers reportedly met with Clay Matthews agent David Dunne who is also the agent for Landon Collins.

Former Packer HHCD just sent Collins a Instagram message saying "It might be in a couple of weeks, You gone love that Green and Gold bro"

The message has since been taken down but you can find it on twitter if you do a search for Collins.

Could there be something in the works?  Could it just be contract leverage for Collins?  Maybe just a pending visit to GB?

That's not good for him to say that.

It could be interpreted as tampering by Green Bay if true.

Agree, it would depend on what meant.  Personally, never been to the combine, but I bet this stuff goes on there all the time.  Didnt some team get busted for Lance Briggs a few years back?

These pieces don't add up to me. First, I just don't believe that a box safety is something that is high on Gute's list of players to add. I could be lost in the weeds on this one, but some agents believe it is edge rusher first and see what is left from there.

Several agents who have met with the Packers at the combine said they got the sense their plan is to spend on a pass rusher (or pass rushers) in free agency and then see what's left in the budget.

But Clinton-Dix tweet does carry some weight also. Puzzling.

Maybe its a backup plan if they cant get the pass rusher(s) they want?  Green Bay can be a tough sell to a FA.  I'm sure they are getting a good idea at the combine with the agents as to what its going to cost to get player X or player Y.   Probably tampering, but I think a lot of the groundwork for FA is done there.  We'll see.

Is it possible that HHCD was just trolling Collins? I mean, HHCD is also a FA, maybe they both want the same team and this is HHCD way of saying enjoy G&G in a sarcastic way. Who knows, but I would not be surprised if it meant absolutely nothing.

This is such a good safety draft, we do not need to sign Collins.

Too expensive anyway.

I would have said it is a pretty poor draft for FS. There are plenty of solid in-the-box SS's though.

Collins is like Dix... He had a good year in 2016 and was pretty average the last two years... This is an easy pass.

I think the FS is already on the roster- JJ...  thumbsup)

Landon Collins is a name that people have heard of so surely he must a big improvement for the Packers, right? There are no shortage of Packers fans wanting to throw money at him like drunken sailors on shore leave. But Collins is a box safety who is very average at best in space and not the missing piece for Pettine's defense. The skillset they need and are probably looking for is a centerfielder type, QB on the backend of their defense, not someone who struggles in coverage. IMO

Landon Collins was the 36th rated safety this year by PFF (min 50% of snaps)

He rated 38th in coverage in what has become an increasingly more pass-heavy league

Let's stop acting as if the Giants are letting a top safety walk for nothing

100% this

Let’s also not forget that 1) safety has been the single most devalued position over the course of the past few years & 2) the only position that has any sort of depth in free agency is (surprise) safety.

I watched him get beat easily by RBs (Cohen) & TEs in coverage.

Source: The #Ravens have cut Eric Weddle. Wow.

He would probably make more sense for the Packers than Collins, if he isn't retiring.

I would bring Weddle onboard in a heartbeat. Coach on the field.

I like Collins or Thomas but I'm a bigger fan of signing Tre Boston.

If Gute goes safety in FA, he'll definitely have some options. GB can be a tough sell, but money talks.

Isn’t he 33-34? I’m pretty sure the wheels have fallen off for him. He would be a good coach one day but I wouldn’t sign him, it’s not like gb is one player away from being a sb favorite. The saints would make sense for him or possibly the rams if Joyner leaves.
