Leveon Bell or Za'Darius Smith
« on: March 15, 2019, 08:31:06 AM »
Z Smith provides a lot of rush flexibility at Edge and DL in passing situations.  Smiths contract with the packers is essentially 3 yrs for $50M.

Bell would have done the same at RB1 and slot WR with A Jones or J Williams in the backfield in certain passing formations.  Bell's contract with the Jets is essentially 2yrs for $26M, meaning the Packers could have potentially signed him and added a cheaper edge rusher than Z Smith for a similar total value (e.g. Houston, Ansah on a prove it deal, CM3 back, etc)

Bell is in New York.

End of story.

I never had an issue with Bell. He just wanted to get paid and rightly deserved it. I'm sure there were other reasons for his departure from Pittsburgh, and due to their unknown nature it's best to tag them as red flags. Could they have been overlooked? Maybe. It probably crossed their minds once or twice.

I think it's a good discussion/poll and a pretty easy one for me. I would rather have Bell by a long shot. I believe Z Smith will be a fine player, but Bell is an elite player who can carry a team.

Bell has too many strikes against him for me.

1.  PED suspensions, when is the next one coming?

2.  He literally walked out on his teammates for a season.

3.   What is a year off going to do to him?

4. Im not sure that delayed running style is going to work elsewhere, where he waits behind the line.   we'll see, but Pitt has a pretty decent OL where he could do that.  The Jets???.
