OTA's are under way
« on: May 21, 2019, 11:40:16 AM »
The starting offense opens up with Bakhtiari, Taylor, Linsley, Turner, Bulaga. Rodgers, Graham, MVS, Allison, Vitale, Jones.

Turner starts day one at RG. Two WR's, one TE and one FB.

The starting defense opens up with Lowry, Adams, Clark. Burks and Martinez. Smith and Smith. Williams and Alexander. Amos and Savage.

Mike Daniels is there but not practicing.

4 players seem to be missing from OTA's, reasons for some not yet given. The 4 players are D. Adams, Josh Jones, Greg Roberts and Marcedes Lewis.

Correction: Davante Adams is there just not practicing.

One positive comment I've heard is that Turner is big and very light on his feet. Also Rodgers is very immersed into the new playbook. Glad the new offense sounds more complicated than what I imagined.

The rest of the OTA dates are,

OTAs: May 28-29, May 31, June 3-6
Mandatory minicamp: June 11-13

I do wonder if Josh Jones shows up for the mandatory minicamp or take a fine, I think that will be very telling.

Unless the team makes a move, I am quite confident that he will show up for mini-camp.

A few OTA tweets from Andy Harman.

First play of team activities and Rodgers & Jones aren’t on the same page on the handoff.

Kevin King is practicing so everyone can sleep easy tonight.

Two things that immediately, and I mean immediately, step out:

ZaDarius Smith & Rashan Gary look the part. The type of players you don’t want to see lined up across from you.

Also, Raven Greene is running around out here looking jacked. Not Danny Vitale jacked, but jacked.

Teo Redding’s got some quick COD ability.

Kevin King & Jaire Alexander have such unique movement traits. They just run drills at an entirely different level.

Darnell Savage communicating openly with the 1st team secondary. He’s fitting right in.

Beautiful one-handed catch by Allen Lazard against air from Tim Boyle.

MVS deep on a perfect deep ball from Rodgers to open team. Beautiful route from 83 with a finger tip catch, huge play. I believe Jackson & Savage on coverage.

Kapri Bibbs with some juice on an inside run (trap)

Kizer slightly overthrows J’Mon on a deep ball. J’Mon beat Tony Brown easy. J’Mon got his finger tips on the ball.

Big hole for Dexter Williams inside (Elgton Jenkins is a big dude).

Another nice play by Kapri Bibbs, this time with an over the shoulder catch from Kizer over James Crawford downfield.

Good stuff! Thanks RT!

Kapri Bibbs out to make it hard for them to let him go?

He's played in a similar run system before at Denver.

Hard to imagine them keeping 4 RB's and a FB.

Another fun group to be watching as they get to camp.

Packers starters on the first play of team:
OL: 69, 65, 62 (for 63), 77, 78 (for 75)
QB: 12
RB: 33
TE: 80
WR: 17, 81, 83

DL: 97, 94
LB: 91, 42, 50, 55

Interesting that Jackson is in ahead of King at corner. Might mean nothing, might mean something.

A few more from Harman.

Fun play. Kizer looking to hit Jawill Davis on a quick out. Kabion Ento with a full extension to deflect the pass but Davis maintained concentration to make the catch anyway.

Billy Turner working at RT - false start

INT for James Crawford off of Boyle

Rashan Gary beats DBakh around the edge for what would’ve been a sack, pure explosiveness

Lots of runs with fake reverse or jet sweep action today.

Rashan Gary making his presence known. First with the speed rush around DBak and now with the power move through Billy Turner. No pads but it’s EXACTLY what you want to be seeing. Shoulder looks just fine btw.

Preston Smith beautifully sets the edge on an outside run.

Aaron Jones with a very Aaron Jones-esque run inside with a bounce outside.

Rodgers to Davante back corner end zone td pass. Beautiful throw. Davante beat Tramon.

Fake reverse, Rodgers hits Adams in the flat, Savage is all over it.

Second team defense stops a run easily... right in the middle of it... Rashan Gary.

Jimmy Graham in for a td on a pass from Tim Boyle on a rollout.

Great pass breakup from Josh Jackson on a little inside hitch route.

Really nice coverage on a corner route by Ka’Dar Hollman.

Kenny Clark penetrates inside on an inside run play. Jones eludes him, not sure he would have if the pads were on.

I didn’t see it but the entire team just went nuts over a catch by Teo Redding.

That does it!

Redding bears watching. He's more of that traditional slot type WR that's a different body type. If he catches fire, it could be at the expense of Kumerow, or Davis.

[Redding (6’1/181) was a two-year starter at Bowling Green, logging a career 94/1,328/14.1/14 receiving line and earning second-team All-MAC as a senior. In 2017, PFF College charted Redding with a 127.3 passer rating when targeted and zero drops. Still snubbed for a Combine invite, Redding showed NFL-caliber athleticism at the Falcons’ Pro Day with a 4.46 forty, 38 ½-inch vertical, and twitchy 6.85 three-cone time, good for 87th-percentile SPARQ results.]

Can he return punts?

I don't see it in his profiles.

Thanks for the update. I want to get excited for Gary...but everything changes once the pads go on. Nice to hear Crawford grabbing interceptions.

Come on brother Hands, go ahead and be excited if you "want to." It is just as easy to move your excitement level up or down once the pads go on. ;)

This is absolutely the time to get pumped about the team and it's players. Time for the good plays to be emphasized, bad plays ignored or at least de-emphasized. There will be more time for realism when TC starts, the pads go on and the "wannabes" start getting separated from the real players. And there are going to be some good battles in camp, and hopefully some real competition for those final roster spots, with the depth of the team being deeper than years past. While at the same time, I'll always have a pang for those guys whose dreams that were years in the making are met with the cold reality of the NFL.
