Mays is a hardcore Bears fan, too, so that must have been a difficult write for him.

The stuff about the Smiths changing the culture is really good, especially when put in context through the quotes from Martinez and Alexander.

Just as interesting was the part about Pettine being surprised with how adept Gute was at identifying weaknesses in the defense.

Great article and a change in culture was definitely needed. I just hope the players respect the coach's ability and authority.  Player coaches are great when the team is winning but it really goes sideways when the team stops winning.

Not sure MLF see's himself as a "players" coach. It might look that way though.

He has said on more than one occasion that he see's himself as a communicator and a teacher.
